Will Carlos The Jackal upstage Macklemore?

NRL Grand Final entertainer Macklemore may be currently whipping up controversy, but he’ll have to go hard to beat Carlos The Jackal when it comes to sending a rugby league crowd into a frenzy this weekend

Set to DJ Saturday’s GYG Rise of The Underdogs international rugby league event at Hillier Oval, Liverpool, the energetic Latino has built a reputation for giving sports fans the unexpected.

Born on Rapa Nui – also known as Easter Island – the Chilean showman fuses Latin American bachata, reggaeton, funk and samba with deep house, break beats and driving grooves from his pulpit on the sideline.

He’s become a secret ingredient in getting the crowd into the mood at a growing list of international fixtures.

On Saturday he’ll be doing a marathon set, with the day’s schedule including:

1pm  Africa United U16s v Malta U16s
2.30pm  Oztag Exhibition 1 (mixed all ages)
3pm  Latin America V South East Asia – tackle
4.45pm  Oztag Exhibition 2 (mixed all ages)
5:15pm  Chile V Thailand – full tackle rules for RLIF points
7pm  Oztag Exhibition 3 (mixed all ages)
7.30pm  El Salvador V Uruguay – full tackle rules for RLIF points

We caught up with him ahead of the big day and asked him some pointed questions.

2. Favourite all-time track (any language)? Lovebirds – Want You In My Soul
3. Go-to track to get the crowd pumping? Yves Deruyter – Back To Earth ( Too hard to answer, this is the first cab off the rank)
