In a late boost to today’s GYG Rise of the Underdogs international rugby league event at Liverpool, west of Sydney, quicksilver Canterbury Bulldogs player Marcelo Montoya has agreed to appear as a special guest.
Montoya, who comes from mixed Chilean and Fijian parentage, is believed to the the first NRL player from a direct Latin American bloodline.
He will present special awards between the completion of the Chile v Thailand Rugby League International Federation sanctioned match and the similarly RLIF-sanctioned game between El Salvador and Uruguay at All Saints Liverpool, Hillier Oval, Memorial Avenue.
Montoya will represent the Fijian side of his heritage at the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

All proceeds from the day go towards international rugby league development, primarily the Latin American Championships being held in Chile on November 17-18. Entry is $10 per adult or $15 a couple, with children free.
