KRISTY Harper was a winner twice this week, discovering a Rugby League team she could follow for Latin Americans – and being selected as the recipient of two Gold category tickets for State of Origin 1 in Sydney.
Kristy was the pick of the litter for her photo submission to a competition which reached 25,000 people, promoting to South and Central Americans what is great about the game we all love.
“My friend just married a guy from Chile and that’s how I found out about the competition,” the 32-year-old from the NSW Central Coast said.
“He’s recently moved to Australia and become very interested in Rugby League and he shared the Latin Heat video around.
“I think it’s great to learn there is a team for Latin Americans. I am a massive fan of the game spreading to other nations and I support countries like PNG, Tonga and Samoa.
“And our Chilean friend is impressed there is already a community out there that enjoys the game like him.”
A mad South Sydney Rabbitohs fan, Kristy was adjudged the winner of the sought-after tickets (worth $350) for a heart-warming photo with her greyhound Sunny.
She is such a rabid supporter that her wedding ring even includes the red-and-green colours of Souths.
Unselfishly, she said she would choose to donate the tickets to husband Peter and 12-year-old stepson Angus so they could attend the blockbuster match.
“We’re all a bit obsessed with Rugby League in this family,” she laughed.
At present the GYG Latin Heat is assisting the formation of Rugby League teams and competitions in six key nations – Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico – and would love to hear from enthusiasts and businesses with an interest in Latin America.
